Welcome to the INTRACTABLE_PAIN Conference -- a friendly and caring place
to discuss intractable pain, its treatment, and to give & receive support.
DISCUSSION TOPICS: Discussions can range from pain and its cause(s) due
to illness, injury or both; emotional & group support; anything you do
to cope with your pain such as hobbies, activities, and diversions;
various treatments, therapies, and modalities; humor as medicine;
anecdotes; self-help and encouragement. Discussions can also include
intractable pain legislation currently in place in some states, and laws
that are pending passage.
PETS: Do you have a pet whose companionship makes your pain a little
more bearable? Please feel free to share your pet "tails" here -- I am
also the moderator of THERAPY_SERVICE_DOG and know how therapeutic pets
can be, even beyond the bounds of animal/human friendship. Our pets are
special to us, and as such, are welcome additions to this echo.
RELIGION: Does your faith help you cope with your pain? Feel free to
share a little bit here about your faith and your pain. It is on-topic
to share your faith and experiences as it relates to your pain. It is
*OFF-TOPIC* to belittle or attack someone for sharing about their faith
and how it helps them cope. Please respect each individual's unique
faith/coping situation, and they will do the same for you... even if you
believe lime jello is god... ;-)
HUMOR: Humor is always on-topic. Laughter *IS* the best medicine, so feel
free to share a joke with us. I love to have fun with puns, so jump right
in and enjoy yourselves -- I won't give you the PUN around. ;-)
REAL NAMES: Real names are required at ALL times. If you are calling
from a board that uses handles, and the Sysop can't change you over to
your real name, you MUST sign off ALL your posts with your real name.
QUOTING: When quoting, please quote just enough to make your point or
bring a point to remembrance. Avoid quoting several paragraphs then
responding with brief comments like, "Yeah!", or "I agree!" Make a
comment, share an anecdote or relate it somehow to the conversation.
Also, please do not quote tag, origin, or tear lines -- unless you
intend to make a specific comment about it.
PROFANITY: I would prefer to keep profanity to a minimum. I understand
it is hard to avoid profanity when you are in intense pain, so I would
just ask that you save the four-letter words for those times when your
pain is at level 10. Otherwise, use the * key somewhere in the midst of
your word. Or use the famous cartoon balloon cursing ("!@#$%^&*") --
this alone can speak volumes in a humorous way.
OFF-TOPIC: The following is prohibited on INTRACTABLE_PAIN and will be
grounds for immediate loss of access: flaming another participant on
INTRACTABLE_PAIN; racist or sexist comments, or any ethnic slur. If you
disagree with a post, please express yourself without belittling the
poster. If someone posts anything inappropriate for this echo, please
let the moderator handle it -- do not respond to them yourself. All
rules violations will be dealt with in netmail. If you have a problem
with someone or have any complaints, please send me netmail.
HEALTH CARE PROFESSIONALS & REPRESENTATIVES: Before getting involved and
posting, please understand that this echo is first and foremost for the
people who suffer daily with intractable pain. If you wish to be involved
here, I ask that you present your credentials in an introductory post --
and state why you are interested in posting to this echo. Please remember
that many of us are burned out from bad experiences with callous, brusque,
indifferent, uncaring medical professionals... in some cases these same
professionals have worsened or caused our conditions. If you are here to
offer genuine help & support, there should be no problem. But if you have
an agenda that can be perceived as an attack on any pain sufferer, you will
not be welcome here. This applies to MD's, nurses, pharmacists, PT's, OT's,
psychologists, drug representatives -- or anyone who makes a living in any
way, in any health care-related profession.
Your cooperation in following these rules is appreciated... Thank You.
